Victoria Road Surgery is Taking Part in the DaRe2THINK Trial!

Victoria Road Surgery is pleased to be participating in the DaRe2THINK research study, which is being led by researchers to improve the future care of people with Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

What is the DaRe2THINK study?

DaRe2THINK is a large UK clinical research trial looking at whether newer blood-thinning medicines, known as Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs), can help prevent serious long-term health complications when started earlier in certain patients with Atrial Fibrillation.

The study aims to improve understanding of how best to protect patients from conditions such as stroke and other cardiovascular complications.

Who may be eligible?

Patients may be invited to participate if they:

• Are aged 65 to 74 years
• Have been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
• Are not currently taking a DOAC (blood-thinning medication)
• Meet the study’s eligibility criteria

Only a small number of patients registered with our practice are expected to meet the requirements for the study.

What does taking part involve?

Patients who choose to participate will receive information directly from the research team. Those enrolled in the study will be asked to complete a questionnaire approximately every six months to help researchers understand their health and wellbeing over time.

The questionnaires will be managed by the research team at the University of Birmingham, meaning there is minimal additional involvement required from the practice.

Do I have to take part?

No. Taking part in the study is entirely voluntary. If you are eligible, you will be given information about the study and will have the opportunity to decide whether you would like to participate.

Your usual medical care will not be affected if you decide not to take part.

Research studies help improve the care and treatments available to patients in the future. By supporting research opportunities such as DaRe2THINK, Victoria Road Surgery is helping to contribute to evidence that may improve healthcare outcomes for people with Atrial Fibrillation across the NHS.
